Can we still be in-home while the roof is being replaced?

The time to replace your roof is finally here, and as eager as you may be to see the results, the process may be a little stressful when deciding to either stay during your roof replacement or leave your home for a few days.

We understand why you may want to stay during this build, such as hotel costs and other accommodation issues. You may also wish to oversee the building, or staying in your home may suit your schedule. All reasons are prevalent, but if you decide to stay, there are a few things you should consider.

Things to know if you stay:

1. Roof replacements are very loud

Don’t expect to get a whole lot of quiet time. Replacing your roof is major construction, so do not be alarmed by the banging and hammering throughout the construction.

2. It can be unsafe

If you hire a professional team of contractors, the process should go smoothly, but while working from heights, things can fall. Whether it’s tools, debris, or nails, falling objects can be hazardous for you or your family. Make sure to stay clear of the construction as much as possible and be aware of potential hazards on the ground, especially if you have kids or pets.

3. It may get cold in your home

It’s no question that your roof is a significant factor in keeping your home warm and safe from outside temperatures. If your roof is getting replaced in the fall or winter, expect your house to be cold, especially at night.

4. It may not be possible depending on your home

Every home is different, especially when it comes to construction. Depending on the location and type of roof, your home may not be livable during your roof replacement. Always talk to your contractor beforehand if you are unsure if you want to stay.

Even though you technically can stay in most roof replacements, you may not want to, and contractors do not recommend it. We understand your home is your comfort zone, but roof replacements typically only last a few days, and it may be a better piece of mind and more comfortable to avoid the construction zone altogether.
